Hello,
Myself and my son are recent carers for a male Axy. After much research we decided on no tank filtration however we are very strict onkeeping the tank clean/regular water changing etc.
However in the last few weeks the Axy has developed on his claws and feet what I can only describe as looking like white fuzzy balls of cotton wool/candy floss.
Do you guys think this maybe a fungal infection - anyone seen this kind of thing before? Do you think it maybe due to lack of filtration?
I would really appreciate your help, the only suggestion my local aquatic centre offered was to bath his claws in salt water!
Anyone know of a good filtration system which will not cause too much flow ??

Found this article on Caudata and they recommend salt baths for fungal infections:

Just note that it does suggest aquarium salt or sea salt and not normal, everyday table salt  |

It does sound like a fungal infection, and I have heard of people using salt baths with amphibians before. Some others recommend placing your axie in the fridge for a few days, because the cold temperature would kill the fungus. Not sure what else to use because I've read that axies aren't good with tropical fish medication, which I know some amphibians can tolerate. Will do a bit more research and get back to you.
Don't know if lack of filtration is the cause if you have been doing regular water changes, but it could help to prevent it in the future.
At the moment my axies are have manual water changes rather than filtration, but has they get bigger I'm planning to use a sponge filter as they don't produce many vibrations.
