We have loads of microworms now, but I can't get to them all. I left a porridge hill in the middle and now it's hard to get the worms off the side without ending up with porridge on the brush too

                | Kazerella | Posted - 27/02/2009 : 16:56:17 I've got my culture! So thought I would do a step-by-step guide (just because I can)

 You will need:
 Starter Culture of Microworms
 Some porridge oats
 Kettle/Boiling water
 Heat proof container
 Spoon (disposable might be best)
Suitable container to let your wrigglys grow in
Either a lid with holes in it or some tights or gauze
Scissors - to make holes either in your lid or cut your tights/gauze

(I have read other ways of making a microworm colony and some suggest putting corn meal and yeast into the mixture, but I am following instructions from the supplier, so believe the starter culture must already have these in the compound).

 Method:
 Get your starter culture ready:

Boil the kettle and find some suitable porridge oats and a heat proof bowl:

Place the oats in the bowl and pour on the boiling water:

 Stir until stiffened:

Place about 1-2 cm worth of the mixture in your container/s and allow to cool:

Get the lid of your container ready- poke air holes in any plastic lids or improvise like I have and use an old pair of tights. This is a pop sock that I have cut into two and tied knots in to make hoods to place over my plastic cups:

After the mixture has completely cooled- add your starter culture to the containers:

 Then put the lids/tights on:

And that's it! Place somewhere warm, wash your stuff and hands and wait a week. Hopefully they'll be some nice microworms crawling up the sides by then.

Just need to buy a child's paint brush now- because that is supposed to be a good way to get your worms from the containers to the tank
