Try vinegar, but only a very small amount on a rough cloth. (that jumper your great-aunt doris knitted is handy now) A razor blade will remove the deposits easily off glass, leaving barely any mark, but you want to try to stop the deposits dropping into the water. If you've got access to water softener filters, then use them for all the water. The water lines are created by hard water, same thing happens in the kettle, it's just calcifying or limescaleing up, depending on your point of view.
