we have a very poorly FBT, hes been to the vets at christmas who gave us syringes to feed him CCF and zolcal-d as he had the start of MBD, the vet said it would take about 6 months for him to show any signs of improvement.

we have been trying him on small foods but he wont touch anything willingly, so my OH force feeds him mushed up live foods such as wax worms and mealies to try and bulk him up (hes getting to be skin and bones).

We have noticed over the last week that his mouth on one side seems to be turning white and underneath his jaw has become discoloured to a sort of white colour. Any ideas on what this might be?

we have heard of bacterial infections causing things like this, my only concern is that he is so weak and the vets are an hour away, obviously if he has to go again then I will take him, I just dont really want them to put him to sleep as we have been treating him every night for the past 5 months and every so often shows some small signs of improvement.

We still have three european FBTs but we wont be getting any other types just at the minute.

Are you getting another amphibian soon?

I know you can't ever replace the little fella, but it would be a shame if his death put you off amphibian keeping altogether.

yeah I was thinking that, then again he hadnt eaten by himself in over 6 months so there was only so long we could continue to force feed him, and his organs could have stopped working.

seems strange not seeing his tank in the living room :( poor little froggy!

That's awful. Poor little fella.

I think it might have been a bacterial infection though.

How are you coping?

No need for advice, he died in the night.
