Hi,
today we were lucky enough to get 2 Blue Poison Dart Frogs, who seemed perfectly healthy, active and happy enough.
They have now been in their new home for about 2 hours, and one has a pink fleshy extension to his butt !!??
(at least that is what it looks like !!)
Is this a medical issue, something normal, or is it a mechanism for heat exchange (similar to the way that some rodents "drop" their "nuts" outside of their bodies to cool down in the heat).
Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question, but my Whites have never displayed this, and I would rather be safe than sorry !!

I agree with Lewy- sugar solution bath asap. Hopefully it'll go back in but if not VETS! |

It does look like a prolapse - It's Worth putting it in a water and sugar solution bath just in case I'd say.
Just a small tub (tupaware tub will do) fill to knee height for the frog with treated water add a teaspoon of normal sugar, If you're lucky the prolapse should go back in. I've heard of people pushing them back in with larger frogs, but this may be hard to do with a tiny dartfrog. If it doesn't go back in with the sugar solution I'd take it to a vet.
Are you feeding on pinhead crickets or fruit-flies? If crickets they may be a little too hard to digest sometimes it can cause problems like this. |
