Hi there,
I recently purchased my first frog (4 days ago).
I bought his habitat with him with the hopes that it would make for a much less stressful move. Since then, I have added a nice driftwood piece and a silk-plastic hanging plant. He also has a rock with a plastic plant that he came with and a waterbowl.
After the first night (when he had no driftwood or hanging plant) He was in the upper corner of his Exo-Terra habitat.
After the second, and now the 3 night, he has moved to the other corner (beside the hanging plant). I stayed up late last night to make sure he got up, as I know they are nocturnal.
He certainly did, and he seemed to have enjoyed himself to a few of the crickets.
I would just like to know if there is anything I should be doing so that he will sleep somewhere else during the day, so I can atleast see him when I walk by. I have not pried him off of his corner, because I would like not to disrupt him and hurt his skin if it does stick to the glass.
I am mostly getting concerned on how I am going to get him out so I can clean his tank.
If anyone could help me or give me pointers on anything, I would gladly take it  I have read tons and tons of webpages on the internet, some of which contradict one another so I thought I would come and talk to those who I know have experience with amphibians, and hopefully White's Tree Frogs.

I used to give mine a quick mist before moving him.
Usually wasn't hard to either I just bribed him out with a waxworm. :D
Just once he's out, he will try to find something to stick to. An arm, outside of the viv, wardrobe, telly. Anything that he can really. |

Try a long 1-2 inch wide branch running from one corner to another - they might like it!

Well each White's is different, but I would hope that as soon as you start moving things around he would become active anyway. Depends how inquisitive he is I suppose |

I will try to clean out his habitat when it gets late - however he normally doesn't 'wake up' until about 11pm.
Would it be harmful to pick him up off the glass? Or should he just stay there and I wipe down the rest of the tank?

I'm not 100% but I think White's do usually go back to the same place to sleep. It can be a bit annoying to the owner, because it may seem like he's always in the same position, but it does mean that your frog has found somewhere where he feels safe to spend the day which is a good thing. Stress is the biggest thing to watch for with amphibians, so if he seems happy then I would leave him to it.
As for cleaning you should be alright. White's have a reputation for having great characters, so I'm sure when he's settled in a bit he might become more responsive to his owner. If you try and clean him out in the evening when he might be more active anyway you should find it easy to get him out while you clean. |
