Hi there guys,
Five weeks ago I brought my frog (Bud) and for the first week he ate. Only mealworms but he didn't have any problems. Then he stopped. It's now four weeks since he has eaten and he is still young and still really small. I know as adults they go months without eating but surely as junvenilles they should be hungry?
He is an exo terra 30x30x30 tank with lots of artifical leaves. a big bowl of decholrinated water to sit in (which I change everyday) with added deinfected rock if he wants to sit on it. some moss and substrate. He gets a good misting everyday as well with decholrainted water.
He also keeps on going into aestivation as well but I don't really know how to get more heat in the tank. At the moment he has got an exo terra heat mat on the side as well as underneath. Also has a exo terra sun glo 2.0 (25w) to try and create mre heat but still no luck.
Tried all kinds of different foods on him, mealworms, crickets, locusts, pinkys, mealworms, mini mealworms as well as waxworms (he ran away from them).
Sorry to be a pain and I'm sure I'm just being daft and it's just a simple mistake but just getting concerned for him.

Hi
It sounds like you have too many heat sources in use, a heat mat on the side of the tank and one underneath.
Is the heat mat thermostatically controlled? and what is your current temperature reading in the hot end? |

I agree- they do aestivate for many reasons not just because they are cold. Try making it more humid.
And earthworms are a favourite!  |

Hey mike, what are the temps like? If it's more then 85F the frog may be trying to retreat from the heat. Sounds like you have all the supplies that you need. What you can try and do is mist the enclosure to make it very humid daily, a few times a day. This will help to bring your frog out of hiding.
Also, try and stay away from mealworms as the exoskeleton isnt the best for small frogs. Wax worms are a great treat crickets should be used as a staple though. If you have nightcrawlers or earthworms at baitshops around you your pacman frog will love them! |
