Posted - 15/11/2009 : 07:10:36 Hi there! I'm new to the boards and have a couple questions.
I'm a toad mom to 4 awesome Fire Bellied Toads: 2 males - Hash and Herb and 2 females - Salma and Patti.
The girls have been together for a bout a month now - I've had Salma since Feb of this year and recently lost my first male so i got Patti about 2 months ago. they're doing great in a 10 gal tank.
The boys are very new - about 2 weeks or so and came together from the store. we bought a bigger tank for the 4 of them to live eventually and have just recently set up the submersible filter in the tank. The boys are in the newly set up tank but having gone through the quarantine process with Patti - I'm just wondering if the males will put up a territorial stink if i add the females to a brand new set up?
Would you suggest i wait the extra 2 weeks before adding the girls? The males are active, eating great and have a healthy slime coating and all the rest.
The new tank is a 20 gal long with a ~70-40 water to land tank with large pebbles as the main "substrate" with drift wood, a skull to hide in as well as lots of fake plants and one aquatic plant.
I don't have a picture yet but can get one soon.
Any help or advice would be awesome <3 thanks again!! |

Posted - 19/11/2009 : 10:39:39 I think adding females to a male tank should be easier than adding males to a femals tank so you should be alright. They should relish the company of the ladies
I would just advise doing what you would normally do when adding any new house mate to an established tank and just keep an eye on them, while being prepared to seperate at the first site of problems.
Hopefully since it's two males to 2 females there shouldn't be a fight between the boys as there might have been if you were adding one female with 2 males.
Keep us informed |

Posted - 18/11/2009 : 22:40:49 Hi LauraNicole
I'm no expert, but I had 4 fbt's brought together approx a year ago - and saw a different coloured one approx 6 mths later so brought him as well... Did what I probably shouldn't have and put him straight in with the others, but there were no problems of bullying or of any other kind that I could tell, and I did keep a fairly close eye on them..... he seemed to just fit right in....
