I am setting my tank up for newts (fire belly) I was planning to add Tetra Aquasafe to treat the tap water and Bacterlife to help get the filter going and protect against new tank syndrome (as I would with fish), however someone in the fish shop said this was not a good idea for newts and they don't react well to this water treatment.

Can anyone advise

Thanks

We use repti safe to treat the tap water we use with our amphibians and not had a problem. They just don't like the chlorine or chlorinmenes.

We also have had success using rain water too.

I've heard something similar to this a while back, can't remember exactly what it was but I think it was to do with the trace metals of some kind in the treatment.
