Is the caresheet on exotic pets website a pretty good guide then? The only bit that confused me was the filtration side of things. Am I right in thinking that they need still water rather than flowing? What's the best way to oxygenate the water for them bearing in mind that live plants in fish tanks and me do not go well together? These could be the 'phibs for me. They're cool .

OOOOPS! Just found the one on here. Sorry . I've got the forums section bookmarked rather than the home page.

Any particular filter that you would recommend?

The ones with the sponges on the bottom are pretty good, They get stressed if the water moves too much so one that takes the water up to the surface and trickles out are the best for them. Power filters would kill them due to stress in no time apparently.

We're using just oxygenating plants at the moment because the tadpoles/hatchlings are small enough to get sucked into the sponge. When they're a little bigger we will be okay. As long as the plants get enough light during the day we should be okay I think

Dan- they came in a plastic bag (like goldfish), inside a chip shop mushy pea container, wrapped in newspaper and then boxed for postage.

Seems to have been alright. Only one of the eggs didn't develop, so I don't think posting harmed them in anyway.

2 more hatched today!!! Another albino and a wild type. I think I will call them Samson and Deliah

That's not what we've got, but I think one of those is fine as long as it's low power and adjustable. I think it's the flow of water they don't like to be too powerful, so if you got one of those you would hvae to point the end towards the side of the tank and it would be fine.

We've all got to tut tut Lewy today! He missed the perfect shot! I got up this morning and one of the little axies was in the process of hatching. I told Lewy to get down here with his camera, but he was in the bath. By the time he got downstairs the axie was out of the egg and free swimming. Shame on him for being clean!!!

The twins have hatched overnight! So pleased because I was worrying about them two being in the same egg. Thought they might struggle to develop properly

Well they've all hatched now- no more little wrigglers in eggs.

I'd like to tell you how many we've got, but they are so good at hiding under the plants that we haven't a clue. Still guesstimating between 14-15.

Too small for him Matty - He's on Large Fuzzy Mice at the moment - As well as Grasshoppers, worms, and as many crickets as you give him. He's a proper porker

Have got loads more photos to put up of the axolotls just not had time to get them off the camera and post them up.

Some bad news- we've had a few casualties in the axie tank. Fished a few bodies out yesterday, which was really upsetting, but by the looks of it they were all ones that hadn't hatched or developed properly so not overally worried that it's something I could've avoided.

Good news though- we definitely have 9 healthy looking axies that are growing and doing well. They also have red food inside them so I'm taking it that they are eating Daphnia too, which is good because we aren't so reliant on microworms now.

They are learning to swin a lot better and are not spending so much time on the bottom. I also noticed a couple of the wild types actively hunting. I think they are doing well
