I am at the very beginning of looking into buying and keeping a frog. I just wanted to say HI and that this forum seems great. I have learnt more in 1 visit to this site than I have over 2 days of trawling the net.
I've never used a forum before and never kept amphibs or reptiles, so I'm sure I'll be back asking peoples advice in the near future.

| Hi Lewy. I dont know which type of frog as yet. I really like the look of the dart frogs, it was the look of these frogs that grabbed my attention. But I think I should look for something more suited for a beginner. Any suggestions? |

I've had my own eye on darts for a long while and I wouldn't get any myself just yet as I wouldn't say I was experienced enough. It's more about getting their food right really and the humidity and set-ups. Some people say they are easy to keep, but I'd recommend getting a hardy frog or toad first.
Toads are quite bold and characterful and after keeping Cliff and Richard for over a year now (they're square marked toads) I would recommend them to anyone! Bufo viridis european green toads are supposed to be very similar in care and you can create a nice looking display tank that you can have live plants in. Bufo viridis are a little brighter than square marked toads but have very similar characters and care here's cliff and richard:

they are great to watch.
Pacman frogs are a great first frog as they are hardy and easy to care for, but they don't move around much unless food is involved. It all depends on what you want from an amphibian. |

Hello Scotty
I think you can't go wrong with: a cane toad, horned frog, fire-bellied toads, white's tree frogs, most species of toad or a clawed frog, but it really does depend on what you want.
Whites are arboreal so spend all their time in the trees, whilst clawed frogs are aquatic and need an aquarium.
If you like darts then why not try something like Mantellas? They are small and colourful but are supposed to be hardier than darts and don't need food quite as small as the darts do. |
