if i have a toad that hybernates naturally in the wild,in captivity should i be letting them hybernate??

I agree, no need to let them hibernate, but what we do is keep an eye on them because sometimes they might bury down in winter more than they would normally, so if we see one of ours buried we don't feed him until he's dug himself out again.

oh ok. i wasnt sure if that was a necessary part of there live,im in cali but north so it gets chilly still,an my bufo boreas dont mind the cold at all,but my bufo regularis im not so sure so they have heat under tank. i jus figured that there from africa an i dont think the winters are very cold there,so i gave them heat before i even knew that i had to. i remember when i had a box turtle the book i had said it was important that i hybernate them,an i didnt know if the same applyed to my toads

Our bufo regularis have heat during the winter too and have remained active much of the time. At one point we did 'lose' Cliff, but it turned out he'd buried himself under a fern. He looked so cosy, but came out again when he realised he'd missed a feed
