Just a quick post to say "hi" from a newbie
I've always loved axolotls since i first saw some in a sealife centre years ago - now i'm a proud 'mum' of 2 and i'm told i spoil them as much as i do my real kids - They are so cute, fascinating and even quite funny with individual personalities (my axies and my kids lol!!)
I originally went looking for one axie but ended up with 2, one wildtype one golden albino, not sure of their sex yet, i suspect they are both female but i guess time will tell!!

Hope they are both the same size, if not you could be faced with what I walked into once, one axolotl swallowing the other.
Welcome. :) |

thanks for the welcome, yep both my axies are about the same size, one's 18cm the other 19.5cm so hopefully neither will end up as lunch
I have no idea how old they are as i got them from a family that was moving and couldnt take them to their new house.
I have a wildtype called Oscar and a golden albino called Rose - Oscar as in oscar wilde, Rose as in axl lol not very original i know!
I love watching them, theyre quite relaxing and calming and very funny at times too, i swear they have individual expressions and moods! Every home should have some even tho i'm quickly finding out most people dont know what they are! |

I found that too, until they were on the One show last week then all my friends rang me to say 'I've seen some of them things you've got on the telly'
Nothing wrong with those names at all. I thibnk it's interesting where people get their pet names from |

lol Beats what we called our 3 (that became 1). Axl, Lotl and Blobl. lol
There was a good programme about axies on Nat Geo recently, they tried to find them in their original habitat and couldn't. We had to turn it off though when they started talking about eating them and using them in traditional medicines. Blobl belonged to our oldest daughter who still misses the greedy..... She got really upset by it. But yeah, in Mexico City they are used in medicines, as food, not too mention world wide in scientific research.

Welcome to the forum Mazz, Good to see more people getting into axolotls
It is a pity that they are so much under threat, at least they are thriving in captivity. There's not much of their original habitat left, poor things. |

You forget that the Aztecs regarded them as Gods too! They are special little creatures. |
