Hi
Yesterday I found fire salamander in nature. In my country, otherwise there is not much literature about salamanders.I got almost all the equipment needed, but it seems to me that he does not eat anything and had no appetite. In the terrarium I put him food such as earthworms, zophobas, tubifex.Maybe he does not eat foods because of stress. I found him in nature.Zanima me how to maintain moisture in the terrarium.How to maintain moisture in the terrarium? Otherwise I live in Croatia and there is Mediterranean climate, summers are very very hot. In order how to protect him from the summer heat?
For that day I will put pictures of my terrarium, and then somebody that we know that if I put everything properly.

I'd put it back where you found it, and buy a captive bred one. A wild caught one like that is likely to just die from the stress of suddenly been in captivity, which is really unfair on the animal.

| but...of course I would like buy a captive bred ,but pet shops in my country don`t hold salamanders and I can find salamanders only in nature. |

It probably is not eating through to stress. Most wild animals struggle to get ued to captivity.
You are feeding it the right foods, so just keep trying. It does need to be quite damp in the tank so spray with de-chlorinated or rain water from a spray bottle every day.
Fire salamanders need it to be cold so you need to watch out for heat stress in your country. Signs of this are if your salamander is pacing the tank, trying to climb out and is struggling to breathe properly.
Place the tank in a shady spot and cool with a fan if possible.
I think releasing him back to nature might be the best for the salamander, but if you are decided to keep him then keep asking questions and we will try to keep him healthy for you. |

Thanks a lot.
Tank where I put him is quite dump and of course I spray tank with de-chlorinated water.
Otherwise my salamander is hiding in the moss and in earth in tank, so it rarely sees the outside.
He is alive but I have not seen that he eat earthworms, zophobas, Tubifex, ...
Now the sun slowly begins to heat starts, so I'll then put the dog into the basement.
On one side of him I am sorry that I took him in nature, but on the other hand if he is in captivity then I will hopefully be extended lifespan of him.
