I want to begin an amphibian collection and am only 14 and my Mother pretty much hates pets other than dogs.
I have already got a pair of axies and would like a frog which can be kept in a small tank so I can put it in my room.
I want something which is easy to look after, not expensive maybe be handled and entertaining to watch.
The main requirement is that the tank is small and affordable.
In my local aquatics, they sell frogs and they are in quite small tanks, probably half the size of my 23"ish tank.
Is this suitable for living in? Or would I have to get a tank that is bigger? |

The easiest to keep are probably Whites tree frogs, and 1 or 2 would fit ok in a 23 inch terrarium, keep in mind you would need heat mats etc though. There are quite a few posts on here from people discussing their terrariums that you could use for ideas. You couldn't keep them in a 12 inch tank though as anything but juveniles. The ones you see in shops are young ones that have barely grown, and are only in there for a short while, before been purchased and rehomed into more suitably sized housing.
However the thing with amphibians is that handling them isn't really a good idea. The oils and chemicals in your skin can be fairly harmful to amphibians. They do far better as a pet for watching. |

Fire-bellied toads are good for cheapness and small enclosures, although they are semi-aquatic.

There are a few types of frog to consider.
African dwraf frogs are small aquatic frogs that don't need much space, i think a 10 gallon tank should be able to house at least 2 frogs but since they're aquatic, you can only have them out of the water for 10 to 15 seconds and be sure to be gentle as they are small, cute and fragile. But for any pet you're considering, remember to research about them before making any final decisions.
