Found this newt in my small ornametal garden pond (10 x 6 x 2.5 feet), it a poor photo I know - the little *** would not co-operate having his/her pic taken so this is through about 2-1/2 feet of water. Looking on the web I found a pic of a female GCN which I've inset in my photo, and they look fairly similar to me. Great Crested Newts are known to be in the area (within 1 mile) so I guess it possible. It's about 3-1/2 to 4 inches long. I would be grateful if someone could positively identify it from this admittedly poor picture.

To be honest Chris - I'm not sure, Could be a palmate newt - or could be a female Great crested... maybe punkman will know when he comes on, he knows quite a bit about newts and sals.
