Just got this fibre glass tank on freecycle - Bargain! all we had to pay for was a full english breakfast to one of our mates for helping out with his van.
This beast is massive! 2 pence piece on the side for size comparison.
Now the question. Do we fill this bad boy with water and get some axolotls and some plants? or do we add a mesh lid and keep salamanders?
Any advice on outdoor keeping very welcome (punkman )

Next door would love it, cheap eggs. That's what I do, plus the neighbours either side regularly throw odds over for the duckys to eat as well, cutting the feeding costs in half, woo hoo. |

He's got a shed to sleep in, so that doesn't count |

Don't suppose anyone has an idea of what would be a suitable filter for this beast?
I haven't got a clue |

Any decent pond filter should do it, or you could go the 'Kehhlyr El Cheapo' way and use a fountain pump drawing through a 3 litre drinks bottle that's stuffed full of tights, sponges and synthetic stiff wool.
But I would recommend filling it with rainwater, as algae can grow incredibly fast in tap water, If you really wanna stop the water going green though, you can add a nice expensive UV instead, it saves on the chemicals then. |

Sounds like a good idea Kehhlyr
I have been bidding on a big UV filter on Ebay, but it's got a bit expensive so I am going to wait for another bargain to come agong.
We were going to try and fill it with rain water. It's about time that water butt came in useful for something - plus we are going to direct the drain pipe into it for a while until it fills up. |
